Ancient Rome was formed around the 10th century BC, but in 753 BC (according to legend) it was founded by brothers Romulus and Remus. It started as a small village in Italy, but over many years Rome grew bigger and started taking up more land.
The history of Rome is usually separated into three parts; before the rise of Rome, the Roman republic and the Roman empire.
